The Challenge
Yard truck movements across multi-plant manufacturing facilities were coordinated by radio, creating frequent miscommunication, missed schedules, and no ability to track or audit what happened when things went wrong. Plant supervisors had no real-time visibility into where yard trucks were or what moves were in progress. Trailer throughput per dock was capped by the limitations of radio-based coordination — one trailer per shift per dock was the effective ceiling.
What We Built
Vantage 9 deployed a tablet-based interface for yard truck drivers with a simple three-button move request workflow. Plant supervisors gained a real-time dashboard of all active moves, pending requests, and trailer locations across the yard. The radio calls were replaced with a digital workflow that created an audit trail on every move and gave supervisors the visibility to coordinate across multiple plants simultaneously.
The Outcome
Each dock went from averaging one trailer per shift to eight — an 8x improvement in yard throughput. For the first time, the manufacturer had measurable KPIs on yard truck performance, move completion times, and dock utilization. The audit trail that had previously not existed was now generated automatically as a byproduct of normal operations.
